Perceptive-RAT: Situational Awareness and Threat Recognition
Perceptive-RAT teaches you to see trouble coming. Violence rarely comes out of nowhere. Predators choose their targets, and the warning signs are usually there for anyone trained to read them. You learn how predators pick their victims so you can take yourself off the list, how to read people and places for what doesn’t belong, and how to recognize an attack before it starts. Perceptive-RAT follows the 90% solution: a small set of awareness habits you can use every day without living in fear.
What You’ll Learn
Days 1–2, Zoom or live
• Foundational mindset: why awareness is a choice, and how to make it a habit instead of paranoia.
• Understanding predatory violence: the three kinds of predators (resource, process, and grievance) and the four motivations for violence (money, ego, territory, and emotion).
• Social versus asocial violence: which confrontations you can walk away from by refusing to take part, and which require you to get out or act.
• V²D²: how a predator sizes up a target in seconds (Value, Vulnerability, Defenses, Detectability), and how to deselect yourself.
• States of alertness: the Color Code from Condition White through Condition Black, what each one looks like, and when to move from one to the next.
• Baseline and anomaly detection: learning what normal looks like in a place, so what doesn’t belong stands out.
• Pre-incident indicators: the behaviors that come before an attack, and the Rule of Three.
• Reading the environment: exits, cover, choke points, and blind spots wherever you go.
• What kills awareness: phones, fatigue, routine, alcohol, and other habits that make you an easy target.
Who Should Attend
Anyone who wants to be safer in public places, workplaces, while traveling, or at home: civilians, families, educators, healthcare and front-line workers, security staff, and law enforcement officers. This is not a fighting class. It is about seeing the threat early enough that you never have to fight.
